Tavallisesti pakkaan laukkuun 3-5 matkakohteesta kertovaa opasta. Kun menen seuraavan kerran Islantiin, otan mukaan vain Satu Rämön ja Björgvin Hilmarssonin Islanti-oppaan. Se on loistava kirja, jonka tekemiseen on nähty valtavasti vaivaa, jopa matkaoppaiden mittapuulla. Sillä pärjää niin Reykjavikissa kuin Islannin kiertomatkalla.

Kirjassa on listauksia Islannin parhaista saagoista, vaellusreiteistä, golfkentistä, kalapaikoista, viime vuonna julkaistuista levyistä, edullisista tavoista matkustaa kalliissa maassa - lähes kaikesta mitä keksii pyytää.

Oppaasta löytää nopeasti tarvitsemansa pikkutiedon. Lukemistakin riittää, muun muassa Islannin entisen presidentin, kalastajan ja noituuden ammattilaisten haastattelut.

Usually when I go traveling I tend to pack in my suitcase three to five travel guides written about the destination. However, the next time I go to Iceland I will only take with me the Iceland travel guide written by Satu Rämö and Björgvin Hilmarsson. It is an excellent book, and you can certainly tell that the authors have put a great deal of effort into compiling it – even by the standards of travel literature.

Armed with this travel guide you can easily manage your way around the capital Reykjavik as well as the whole of Iceland.

The book includes listings about the country’s top folklores, hiking routes, golf courses, fishing places, records published last year, inexpensive ways to travel around the country – more or less about everything you could ever ask for.

From this travel guide you can effortlessly find the essential pieces of information you need whilst traveling. The book also has plenty of other reading, such as the interviews of a fisherman, of a person professionalizing in witchcraft, and of the country’s previous president.

The best thing about the book is its authors’ – one Finn and one Icelander – wide knowledge of the society. After reading the book you come to understand just how important gnomes are to Icelandic people, and how natural it is for Icelanders to take over European companies.
